WATER AND SEWER RATES 2023-2024 – adopted at April 2023 meeting

Water Rates

For example, 10,000 gallons = $100 (for the first 6000 gal) + $12.00 (for the remaining 4000 gal) = $112

  • June/July/Aug – billed approximately September 1 and will be due around October 1
  • Sept/Oct/Nov – billed approximately December 1 and will be due around January 1
  • Dec/Jan/Feb – billed approximately March 1 and will be due around April 1
  • Mar/Apr/May – billed approximately June 1 and will be due around July 1

In mid-April every year, any unpaid water or sewer bills from the prior four quarters, will be re-levied to property taxes and appear on your Village taxes.

Municipal water bills are penalty free exempt.

As of June 1, 2023 the quarterly water rate for Village residents will be $100.00 for the first 6000 gallons used and $3.00 per thousand gallons thereafter.

As of June 1, 2023 new water hook ups will be charged for actual costs of labor and material per NYS Village Law Section 11-1112.

As of June 1, 2023 the Seasonal Water Rate will be $50.00 per quarter when the meter is absent for an entire quarter or when the meter is installed for all or part of a quarter and the water use is less than 1500 gallons per quarter.  When water use is 1500 gallons or greater, the user will pay the full Village minimum of $100.00 for up to 6,000 gallons and $3.00 per thousand gallons thereafter.  A $50.00 fee is charged for meter installation of seasonal meters.

  • A 10% penalty is applied when penalty free period ends.
  • As of June 1, 2023 – Ontario Shores Water District will be billed $175.00 for water debt service in February.
  • As of June 1, 2023, the water rate for the Town of Hounsfield will be $4.00 per thousand gallons.

Sewer Rates 

Municipal sewer bills are penalty free exempt.

  • As of June 1, 2023 new sewer hook ups will have a onetime actual cost charge of $500.00.
  • As of June 1, 2023 the quarterly sewer rate for Village residents will be $125.00 per sewer unit.
  • A 10% penalty is applied when penalty free period ends.
  • As of June 1, 2023 Ontario Shores will be billed $420.00 for sewer debt service in November.

Seasonal Rate

If a homeowner is going to be out of their house for an extended period of time, they may call the Village Office and request to have their meter removed for “the season”

  • 0-1499 gallons = $50 per quarter
  • If water use is 1500 gallons or above, the rate returns to the regular village rate (above)
  • There is no change in sewer rates
  • There is a $50 reinstallation fee to be charged on bill following installation

If there are unpaid water or sewer bills, they will be relevied to your property tax

Per Local Law #1 of 2005 – classification of sewer units are as follows:

One family residence apartment, cottage, and mobile home 1 unit
Each additional apartment unit, rental cabin or cottage occupied or rented or available for rent or occupancy at any time during the calendar quarter 1 unit
Building lots in served areas 0 unit
Churches, lodges and fraternities 1 unit
Restaurants, taverns, etc.
Hotel or Motel 7 units
Restaurant and bar 3 units
Restaurant without bar 2 units
Bar without restaurant 2 units
Boarding house or bed and breakfast establishment 1.5 unit
Commercial use including retail stores 1 unit
Commercial use including gas station 1 unit
Add 1 unit for each additional vehicle washing stall
Laundromat – 1st washer 1 unit
Each additional washer 1/3 unit
Marina without boat waste facility 1 unit
Marina with boat waste facility 2 units
Public School 20 units
Municipal Building 2 units
Other public buildings:  Library ¼ unit
Other public buildings: Museum ¼ unit
Other public buildings: Other 1 unit
Industrial establishments: 1 unit for every 15 employees 1 unit minimum
Health club 3 units
Any premises or building with multiple uses will be charged the unit charge for each use, except laundry facilities in common areas of apartment buildings which are for the use of only the occupants of that building.
Any use not listed – as determined by the Board of Trustees by subsequent local law.
