Residents urged to stay indoors and refrain from strenuous activity due to smoke from Quebec wildfires.
Sackets Harbor, NY June 6, 2023 Village officials are warning residents to avoid prolonged or strenuous activity outdoors due to the poor air quality resulting from the wildfires in Quebec. Smoke from these fires is currently affecting the entire upstate New York area. Officials from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation have issued an advisory until midnight tonight due to an air quality index over 100 which poses a potential health hazard for sensitive people. However, all may be affected to some degree.
NYSDEC recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
